On July 1st 2009 the new electronic customs presentation called "ATLAS-ECS" became binding. Some software-providers have implemented a simple, fast and comfortable communication service for the electronic customs presentation at the airports. These customs software system is already being used by several air freight forwarders all over Germany.
To facilitate the new process with "ATLAS-ECS" for all forwarders, truckers, handling agents and airlines LUG aircargo handling GmbH (Cargo City South) in cooperation with several software providers has now established an independent and neutral "AES/ECS-Service-Desk". With either the truck manifest or the Air Waybill the customs presentation can be released by an LUG employee around the clock. All parties involved can present the truck manifest or the AWB at the Service-Desk and within very short time all consignments loaded for the airport in Frankfurt will be electronically presented to the customs system ATLAS. For the customers the LUG "AES/ECS-Service-Desk" has some more advantages: First, the customs office is directly located in our building so that several tasks can easily be managed at the same time without additional ways. Second, LUG has enough storage capacity to be able to store consignments if required by customs, i.e. for a customs examination. The AES/ECS-Service Desk has opened on July 1, 2009 and will certainly evolve into an important address at Frankfurt Airport.
